T/Sgt John Paul Reed

397th BG / 599th SQ Radio Operator/Gunner

John Paul Reed, 92, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Alice (Schell) Reed, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010.

 

John was a proud U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and served bravely over the skies of Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, this nation's second highest military honor. Prior to his retirement in 1973, he had been a production analyst for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft of East Hartford. Mr. Reed was an avid walker and had participated in the March of Dimes walk-a-thons until he was 85 years old. He was extremely well read and enjoyed gardening.

 

Along with his wife, Mr. Reed is survived by his twin sons, J. Marshall, and his wife, Susan D. Reed, of South Windsor and Paul Terry and his wife, Claudia Reed, of Summerfield, Fla. He also leaves his grandson, Jason P., and his wife, Amy Reed, and her three daughters; and his two great grandchildren, Marshall Thomas Reed and Sierra Anne Reed. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Mr. Reed was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Reed, and by his sister, Ethel Reed, and by his two grandsons, Shane David Reed and John Parris Reed.

 

The private funeral service and burial will be held at a later date.
