Robert C. Lauppe

Oct. 20, 1919 - Nov. 15, 2009

Was born on October 20, 1919 in Antelope, California. Graduated from Dry Creek Elementary (two room school), Roseville High School, Stockton Jr. College and College of the Pacific in Stockton.

 

Bob spent 34 years with the St. Paul Companies. Fifteen years were in the San Francisco regional office of St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company. He started as a casualty underwriter eventually becoming Assistant Superintendent of Casualty Underwriting for the western states. Bob's next move was to that of Office and Personnel Manager for the western states. In 1964 he accepted a transfer to the corporate office of the parent company in St. Paul, Minnesota.

 

Ultimately he became the corporate Human Relations V.P. In Minnesota Bob was an active community volunteer serving on the boards of nonprofit agencies, foundations, committees, and task forces. Most of them dealt with health care or community social issues. He retired in 1983. Bob also served on hospital boards in many capacities for over 30 years for Miller Hospital and United Hospitals in Minnesota and John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.

 

Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Harrison Lauppe, son, Scott, daughter-in-law Lorie, daughter, Karen, grandchildren, Breanna, Robert and Cassandra, brother Irwin Lauppe and his wife Virginia. He was preceded in death by his sister Mirium.

 

Services will be held on Saturday 11/21/09 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 1550 Diablo Road in Danville followed by a Celebration of Life Luncheon at the Crow Canyon Country Club beginning at 11:00 a.m. Private family burial services for Robert will be on Sunday, 11/22/09 at the East Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento at 2:00 p.m.

 

Robert also served in WWII as a pilot of the Martin B-26 Marauder – medium bomber. He was a member of the 1st Pathfinders Squadron and of the 323rd Bomb Group/ 453rd Squadron. He was also a longtime member of the B-26 Marauder Historical Society. He will be missed by our organization and members.
